Women in STEM: Specific Needs

According to the chart, about 39% of chemical and material scientists, 27.9% of environmental scientists and geoscientists, 17.2% of industrial engineers, 15.6% of chemical engineers, 12.1% of civil engineers, 8.3% of electrical and electronic engineers, and 7.2% of mechanical engineers are women. THIS IS A PROBLEM. Women are underrepresented in areas that require engineering skills more than in life science areas. Though being underrepresented in both is a problem, we need to work on one area more than another. There are certain programs that help more girls get into STEM in order to do that.
